Join Stephen Burnett, former Director of the Great Lakes Cruise Association, for an exploration of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. He will highlight the ships that sail to Lake Ontario and Erie’s greatest destinations, as well as the colorful itineraries that bring them there.
From Niagara Falls to Toronto and the Thousand Islands, Stephen Burnett will take you on a journey through the cruise ships and itineraries that showcase the stunning destinations of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. He will explore the unique features of the vessels designed for these Great Lakes, highlighting the picturesque ports of call that make this region a top travel destination. As 'inland oceans,' Lake Erie and Lake Ontario offer a binational cruising experience with captivating stops in both the U.S. and Canada. Stephen will discuss what makes these lakes stand out as premier cruising locations, attracting more international travelers to discover their charm and beauty.
Stephen was born in the UK and has had the opportunity to live and work in Switzerland, Japan, Israel, Tunisia, and the United States. His base in Switzerland allowed him to travel throughout Europe on a weekly basis, enjoying the many cultures and cuisines across the European continent. In Japan, Stephen studied Japanese culture, spending many weekends in a Japanese monastery, where he learned about the history of judo from local experts. While living in Israel, Stephen traveled throughout the Middle East and made lifelong friends in several neighboring countries along the North African coastline. From his base in Tunisia, Stephen participated in archaeological digs at the site of Carthage and enjoyed weekend camping trips in the desert, where he learned to ride a camel.

He now lives in Kingston, Ontario, which was the first capital of Canada and is home to Fort Henry, built to defend the British naval dockyard during the War of 1812.
Victory Cruise Lines Returns To The Great Lakes
For the 2025 cruising season, Victory Cruise Lines has announced their return to the Great Lakes. Over the years, Victory has been known as the quintessential Great Lakes Cruise line. Their twin ships -- Victory I and Victory II -- were specifically built to traverse the various locks needed to move in, out, and between the lakes. Years ago, the cruise line was purchased by American Queen Voyages, but American Queen closed their doors in February 2024. Soon after, the ships were re-purchased by their by their previous owner to once again sail the Great Lakes.
The Victory I and II are expected to have updated interiors and a range of new features with their 2025 debut. The line will launch with a brand-new set of itineraries, including one that touches all 5 of the lakes and an inaugural sailing on April 16, 2025 from Portland, Maine to Toronto, Ontario. At Great Lakes Cruises, we're over the moon to have this Great Lakes classic make their return. |
