LA ROCHELLE MANSION & MUSEUM
Explore Mount Desert Island history at Bar Harbor's Gilded waterfront mansion that is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1903 La Rochelle is the largest estate built along the shore of West Street in Bar Harbor. This magnificent Georgian Revival Mansion was was built for George Sullivan Bowdoin. The architects were Andrews, Jaques and Rantoul of Boston. Situated on 2 acres of land this 13,000 square foot, forty-one room lavish chateaux has 9 full bathrooms and twelve bedrooms. The Bar Harbor Historical Society recently purchased the estate in 2019 in order to preserve the grounds and the mansion for generations to come.
