Thunder Bay, Ontario. This community on the North Shore of Lake Superior is rapidly becoming one of the most sought after destinations for adventurous Great Lakes cruises. Thunder Bay is lovingly known as the "largest city on the edge of the world" by locals. It's an urban oasis replete with incredible dining, a delicious brewing scene, and plenty of entertainment. Step just outside the city though, and you'll find seemingly endless wilderness all around. In the area surrounding Thunder Bay, shipwrecks, forgotten mines, and incredible natural landforms are plentiful. In the image to the left, you'll find the Silver Islet Mine, a shaft now filled with water that stretches over 1,200 feet down. Here, you can easily kayak over the mineshaft or, if you're incredibly brave, dive into it.
