Acadia Birding FestivalBAR HARBOR, MAINE
Bar Harbor, Maine is home to the Acadia Birding Festival June 3rd-6th. The Acadia birding community invites you to celebrate and learn about the ecological birds of the Gulf of Maine. The event takes place on Mount Desert Island where you'll find numerous things to see and do. You can take a gander with the warblers on an early morning walk, visit with the puffins and pelagic birds at sea. Mount Desert Island is considered the "Warbler Capital of the World". The Peregrine Falcons have a very active breeding site in Acadia National Park so you'll want to observe them as well. |
Between the walks, lectures and adventures, you'll discover the many bird species at Downeast Maine’s habitats as narrated by local birding experts.
From the deck of the whale watch catamaran, you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the Atlantic Puffins, Razorbills, Arctic Terns and Roseate, and visit with whales and pelagic birds 25 to 30 miles offshore.
There is no other birding event in Maine that offers quite the variety of birdwatching as you will find at the Acadia Birding Festival. The more than twelve year history of the festival originally began as the Warblers and Wildflowers Fest but was later reorganized as the Acadia Birding Festival with over 180 species.
Mount Desert Island is a summer destination for some of the species, while others are only passing through to breeding habitats farther north. You'll observe everything from woodpeckers, to the American Woodcock, to Boreal Chickadees, to Red and White Winged Crossbills.
We encourage visitors to the festival to seek out on their own during free moments or after the Birding Festival is over in search of the many different type of species. Acadia National Park is considered the locals "backyard" and they truly enjoy sharing its charm and beauty with special guests from across the globe.
