Located in the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River, the Antique Boat Museum is one of the most amazing freshwater boating museums in North America. Their collection includes over 320 unique boats and thousands of related artifacts and archives all on display in five buildings. The boats in the collection range from birchbark canoes to hydroplanes to the Gilded Age 106’ houseboat named La Duchesse. The 4.5-acre campus comes alive seasonally with speedboat rides, a working skiff livery, and educational programs. From late June to early September – weather permitting – visitors can enjoy a quiet row in a Traditional St. Lawrence River Skiff on the protected waters of French Creek Bay. St. Lawrence. |
Built for hotelier George Boldt in 1903 La Duchesse was created with every creature comfort in mind and was also later owned by Life Saver Candy Company’s E.J. Noble, and Andrew McNally III. Over the ship's life, it has been a summerhouse, country club, guest house and museum. There is a ticket fee and guests must sign up a the front desk unless they have a pre-arranged tour set up through the cruise line.
