Cave of the Winds & The World Changed Here PavilionNIAGARA FALLS STATE PARK, NEW YORK
At Cave of the Winds, Niagara Falls, NY, you'll find not one, but two very intriguing attractions: The World Changed Here Pavilion and the actual Cave of the Winds. It's been said that “the world changed at Niagara Falls,” hence the name of the pavilion. Arriving for your tour, you'll first find the pavilion. It's an essential stop on the way to the cave that teaches visitors about Niagara Falls in an entertaining way. |
While at the pavilion, you’ll learn how Nikola Tesla was able to harness the power of the falls to create an alternating current. You will be able to experience what Niagara Falls looked like prior to becoming a park. People from all over the world have been pulled here like a magnet for hundreds of years.
Once you’ve experienced The World Changed Here Pavilion, it's time to embark on your Cave of the Winds tour. The name Cave of the Winds itself is a little bit confusing. Back in the 1800’s there was a rock overhang kind of like a cave that actually allowed people to stand under the falls. But in the early 1900’s, that rock structure collapsed but the name Cave of the Winds has remained ever since.
Before heading to the Cave of the Winds, you’ll be outfitted with a souvenir poncho and a pair of sandals in hopes of keeping dry. Next you’ll descend 175 feet via elevator into the magnificent Niagara Gorge. A wooden walkway path will lead you to the “Hurricane Deck”. This awe inspiring deck will take you within feet of the crashing Bridal Veil Falls where tropical storm conditions are always present. There is no place on earth that will take you any closer to the falls than right here. If you prefer to view the gorge from a dryer perspective, The Cave of the Winds Gorge Walk is a shortened version as seen from a view on the observation platform.
