HarborfestOSWEGO, NEW YORK
Every July the city of Oswego New York hosts the Harborfest. This is one of the few free music festivals in the state of New York. The festival runs for 4 full days of fun. There are many attractions and venues as well as lots of great food and drink. The Oswego County Harborfest is a nationally recognized festival and it attracts about 75,000 guests each year. The festival was founded in 1988 and relies on the volunteer efforts of well over 60+ people from the community. They work unlimited 4 hour shifts to help make the festival happen. |
The festival has helicopter rides, a children’s parade, fireworks, midway and craft vendors. Since that time more than 600 artist have performed on an admission free basis such as jazz and blues music, which take place on East Park Washington Square, and the Veteran’s Stage River Walk West, the Main Event Amusement Midway, the Lakeview Stage at Breitbeck Park, and the world famous Grucci Fireworks display in the harbor.
During the 4 days, there are about 30 groups that will perform. Some of the popular artist that perform are Little Queen, Grit n Grace, Hard Promises, Dam Dog, Scars N’ Stripes, and Brothers of the Gray Bus Band.
The City of Oswego provides incredible support for the event. The festival is supported by the Oswego Police and Fire Department, Public City Works Department, the United States Coast Guard as well as the Oswego County Emergency Management Department. Contributions from local industries, businesses and individuals in the community help make the festival a huge success.
Parking is available close to the festival or you can take a shuttle at the nearby racetrack, both for a fee. If you’d like to arrive by water, please note that docking is very limited during the Harborfest due to a large amount of boat traffic. Check out the short video clip on the festival below.
