Holland Bowl Mill - Holland, Michigan

Holland Bowl Mill

HOLLAND, MICHIGAN

Holland Bowl Mill in Holland Michigan is a great place to visit.  This lost art of bowl turning is alive and well here at the mill.  This American Tradition dates back some 150 years ago when the use of wooden bowls were a very common part of every day life.  The skill it took to turn a bowl was one that made them a rarity and a greatly valued item, even more so today.

Holland Bowl Mill is one of the few commercial producers still in operation in the United States.   Originally the mill was started up as a wooden shoe factory back in 1926 by Chester VanTongeren.  The wooden shoe factory is still owned and operated today by some of Chester’s relatives.  In 1984, the Holland Bowl Mill because a separate company which is owned and operated by Dave Gier who is Chester’s grandson.  The bowl mill is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan in the town of Holland.

The Holland Bowl Mill still manufacturers various sizes and shapes of beautiful wood grained bowls.  They plan to expand to other useful wood products in the future.

Holland Bowl Mill sells its products world wide.  They carry a large line of painted, carved, and burned kitchenware and corporate gifts.  The quality workmanship is second to none.  It takes close to one hundred years for a hardwood tree to produce the grains needed to make each wooden bowl.  A variety of colors and grains make up the unique pattern in every bowl, no two are exactly alike and they make keepsakes that last for generations to come.

Because of the nature of this unique art form, all their bowls come with a lifetime guarantee. If your bowl cracks or warps from regular use, Holland Bowl Mill with replace it with a new one of similar size and finish.  Never let water stand in one of their bowls for any length of time, nor should you wash them in the dishwasher.  They recommend using water and a small amount of mild dish soap to clean the products, and hand dry accordingly.

There is a proverb that states, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the next best time is now.” The quote suggests that hard work pays off, and good things will come to those who wait and we couldn't agree with the interpretation more.
