Journey Behind the FallsNIAGARA PARKS, ONTARIO
Taking a Journey Behind the Falls is one of the most memorable excursions you can take while at Niagara Falls. You’ll descend 125 feet where you will discover tunnels through the bedrock that are 130 years old. It should be noted there are elevators that are wheelchair accessible. The tour is self guided and takes approximately 45 minutes. |
As you explore the tunnels, the thundering vibration of Horseshoe Falls will be greet you down each path. The two tunnels that run behind the falls extend 151 feet. Earlier in the history of the falls, visitors were allowed much closer to the edge.
There is an observation deck located at the foot of the falls where you’ll be amazed at the breathtaking views and even possibly get a little wet. There are viewing portals that have been cut straight through the bedrock. They offer that once in a lifetime view of one fifth of the worlds fresh water in a magnificent dance as they crash down front and center.
The lower observation deck affords you the view to watch 2,800 cubic meters of water break over the falls every second. Thats more than 1 million bathtubs of water. The water travels at the rate of 65 kilometers per hour. You will quickly find that the awe and majesty of these falls is so magnificent and a true testament to the power of mother nature.
The Spring and Summer usher in the biggest mist from the falls. To best enjoy the view, make sure you pick up a souvenir poncho and a pair of rubber boots to fully appreciate the magnificence of the falls. Proper footwear is encouraged as the falls can get quite slippery. All the ponchos that are returned or discarded are recycled by the Niagara Parks Commission. Feel free to take yours with you as a keepsake of your trip.
