Milwaukee Brewing Company MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN
When cruising the Great Lakes, the Milwaukee Brewing Company is an iconic institution you can not miss seeing when cruising to or from Wisconsin. Milwaukee became the brewing capital of the world in the late 1800’s because of its access to fresh water, agriculture and ice in the region. So naturally, Milwaukee was the perfect place to set up a brewery. As a result, the Milwaukee Brewing Company served up its first beer in October 1997. At that time, Milwaukee was predominantly a lager town. |
The company was founded on the precept of creating and crafting beers using only the best local ingredients. They were originally started as a brewpub called the Milwaukee Ale House. That gave way to founder Jim McCabe using his engineering expertise and desire for home brewing to design a great functional brewery.
They produce more than 300 different seasonal flavors each year. The new generation of craft beer lovers whom are just as passionate as the Milwaukee Brewing Company, have helped in the success of the business.
By 2007, the first kegged brew was packaged by the Milwaukee Brewing Company at a 50bbl packaging facility at the 2nd Street Brewery. They use vintage equipment matched with current technology and the growing demand to create, achieve, and deliver the best products through energy efficiency.
They offer a line of “green brewing” in order to take advantage of the regions large natural water resources. That being said, the unavoidable fact remains the industry is still plagued with the huge cost associated with heating, cooling, and packaging the products.
The Milwaukee Brewing Company launched its first “micro-canning” system in Wisconsin through the acceptance of the Craft Can. It’s a far better option for packaging because it is the largest recyclable packaging in the world, far lighter weight to ship, uses far less energy than bottle production, and they are much safer since there is no chipping or shattering.
Some of the catchy craft names are “Snake Oil”, “Weekend @ Louie’s”, and “Plowed In”, just to name a few. So when your cruise ship takes you to the region, make sure to check out the goods at the Milwaukee Brewing Company.
