Niagara Falls Observation TowerNIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK
The Niagara Falls Observation Tower on the U.S. side is a wonderful vantage point of the amazing falls that extends out dramatically over the Niagara gorge. The Niagara Falls USA Prospect Point Observation Tower gives guests an unobstructed view of the cascading falls as well as the foaming whitewater down below. |
Not only is the tower excellent for photo opportunities, it’s a popular pastime for bird enthusiasts. There are many species of birds at the falls such as the spotted peregrine falcons, various gull species, and bald eagles. The Niagara Gorge has been officially designated as an Audubon Important Bird Area (IBA).
The USA observation tower provides the only panoramic view of the Niagara River and all three Niagara Falls (including American Falls). There is an elevator that you can ride down to board the Maid of the Mist boat tours (admission required). Since Covid-19 restrictions are in place, there is a requirement to purchase a Maid of the Mist boat ticket in order to access the observation tower. There is usually a fee to take the boat ride and go up to the observation tower (except in the winter when the tower is supposedly free).
It can get pretty chilly during the winter so be sure to bring a heavy coat and a poncho. And if you’re someone who is afraid of heights, join thousands of others who have braved the tower anyway and were so glad they did. You might also want to call in advance if you’re thinking of going on the part of the tower that extends out over the water as it is often closed to the public. The observation tower by far provides the very best view of the falls and it will take your breath away so don’t miss out on the fun and great photo ops.
