Niagara Street Cafe
TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA
Even though the Niagara Street Cafe is now closed, we wanted to mention this Toronto, Ontario mainstay,
Since 2004 the restaurant was on the top of the fine dining list as most of their loyal customers were appeared to be other Chefs from the surrounding area. All of Toronto's in-the-know diners we're always scrambling to get a table at this Toronto institution in order to experience the magic that was the Niagara Street Cafe.
Owner-Sommelier, Anton Potvin, formerly from Biff’s and Canoe was the original owner of the Niagara Street Cafe. Prices were reasonable and the menu was organically based. Chef Michael Caballo was the first chef who brought id all together in this phenomenal cozy setting. Chef Caballo is from Edmonton by way of Madrid. Depending on the season, the menu changes due to the availability of fresh organic produce and the different fish options they are able to secure. The cuisine is primarily Bistro, French, and Mediterranean. Their delectable desserts are made in house and will leave a lasting impression. Reservations are strongly recommended. With the best in fine dining and wine it’s hard to beat this little gem of a cafe.
Later the famous dining spot changed hands and the torch was pasted onto the husband and wife team Chefs Nemeth and Michael Caballo, now under the new name of Edulis. Chef Caballo considers the transformation more of a homecoming: he headed up the kitchen at Niagara Street Café from 2005 to 2008.
